Autistic Pride Day!

June 18, 2026

This day recognizes the importance of pride for autistic people and its role in bringing positive changes to society. The word “pride” is meant to foster a celebration of autistic differences, rather than reinforce stereotypical perceptions of autism as a disability.

We celebrate strengths, community, and identity. It is about being visible, not hiding.

Pride, not pity.

This day is not about awareness but as a statement of neurodiversity, self-determination and acceptance. The day honors the idea that folks are proud to be autistic and that they are not diseased or defective. That there isn’t a need for a cure.

How can you engage positively with autistic individuals?

  • Choose your words carefully. Ask if they prefer, “autistic person” or “person with autism”
  • Participate in an activity that plays into their strengths.
  • Collaborate to honor them. Ask questions such as, “what would make this day special for you?” or “what brings you joy, what could we do?”
  • Take into consideration the varying sensory needs of those celebrating. Offer noise canceling headphones, avoid busy, loud, overcrowded places if needed.

Let’s celebrate and stand beside all individuals with autism that we care for and about and celebrate their identity, strengths and contributions. Today and every day we should use respectful language, promote inclusivity and plan our outings with care and thoughtfulness.

Lets create a day filled with acceptance, respect and of course Pride!
